As early as 2020, Apple recognized that unlocking via Face ID posed a particular challenge during the pandemic. Criticism of the stricter guideline came from Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg. Facebook fears that these guidelines would make the personalization of advertising – the most important source of income for Facebook and Co. – less precise. This would damage small and medium-sized companies in particular, according to Zuckerberg.
